The course is for students who want to learn a basic concept of programming in a gentle way.  Emphasis is on problem solving, design, and programming as the core skills of computer science. A simple, but yet powerful object-oriented programming language Python is used to illustrate these ideas. Python is very flexible and has an easy set up to start programming. Topics covered in class are variables, data types, assignment, functions, decision structures, loop structures and objects.

Python is used to illustrate fundamental principles of design and programming that apply in any programming languages. Python is an interpreted, interactive, object-oriented programming language. It combines remarkable power with very clear syntax. Yet, Python is used in a wide variety of real world applications, from small-scale projects to more difficult endeavors like game programming.
Upon completion of this course successfully, you should be able to accomplish followings in a beginner level:

  • Develop algorithms and solve problems
  • Understanding principal programming structures
  • Decision making
  • Looping
  • IO handling
  • File Handling
  • Function structures
  • Object and Classes
  • Simple Graphics
  • Writing object oriented programs: define class, use class.
  • Test and debug programs.

You will need to bring your own laptop and power supply. To save time, it would be ideal to download and install the Python environment on your computer before the class.
You can download Python from https://www.python.org/downloads/release/python-364/
