Evolution of High Speed Ground Transportation
from Maglev to Hyperloop
Arbi G. Siraki, PhD
Thursday, April 27, 2017, 7:30 pm
100 W. Walnut Street, Pasadena, CA 91124
High speed transportation is one of the most vital sectors of the industry due to its significant impact on modern societies that require a growing mobility to sustain their economic, political and social development.
Sustainable development necessitates drastic improvement of the transport sector with regards to environmental impacts, noise, pollution, congestion and economical cost.
Technological advances in material science and engineering specifically emergence of high energy permanent magnets, fast switching high power electronic components and more advanced control techniques created a new era of high power propulsion systems.
Dr. Siraki will provide an overview of available technologies, status quo of industry and how Hyperloop is going to revolutionize this sector.
Dr Siraki received his Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering from Concordia University, Montreal, Canada.
He is currently leading electromagnetic design of the propulsion system at Hyperloop One. Before that, he was involved in designing electrical propulsion systems for electric vehicles at TM4 Inc which is part of Hydro- Quebec group, Canada.
