AESA Young Professionals Committee kickoff Mixer

Glendale CA – Armenian Engineers Scientists of America (AESA)  Young Professionals Committee kickoff mixer was held on March 30th at Oak and Vine on Harvard streets. There were over 40 young professionals who attended the mixer.
Mr. Asadour Tarakchian chair of the committee welcomed all attendees and made remarks regarding vision of the committee and some forthcoming activities in this year. Then Mr. Richard Ohanian, AESA council member, expressed great pleasure in seeing young professionals responding so enthusiastically to this kickoff event and laid out some AESA short and long term plans for the audience. Mr. Aram Ter-Martirosyan, AESA council member, followed Richard Ohanian in some remarks about the evening’s lively ambiance and expressed gratitude for encouraging AESA activities.
The mixer was very honored to have among the crowd AESA President Mr. Vrej Agajanian and Glendale city council member Mr. Ara Najarian. Both took the opportunity to express their gratitude for seeing such a vibrant young Armenian professional gathering. The party wound down around midnight.

AESA NY-NJ Section Annual Mentoring Forum

Fordham University, NYC – On Friday, March 3, 2017 the 7th annual mentoring forum took place. With each year the popularity of this forum continues to grow. This year 150 participants from the tri-state area, Boston and Canada were in attendance. This annual event, jointly organized by the AESA NY-NJ Section and AAHPO has been taking place every year for the past 7 years The primary goal is to mentor and support Armenian students in choosing their career objectives, professional education and career development. Students and young professionals alike met and socialized with established professionals and specialists in fields including Engineering, Health, Finance, Law, Real Estate, Sciences and many more. The participating mentors are available throughout the year for consultation, advice and guidance.

The event began with opening remarks by AESA NY-NJ Vice President Allen Berber followed by the Chairman of the Mentoring Forum, AESA NY-NJ Founding Member Vahan Tanal who thanked all the mentors who participated. He encouraged other established professionals to serve in the forum as mentors. AESA NY-NJ Past President, Aram Setian, spoke on the history of the mentoring forum and how it has grown throughout the years. He also spoke on the pilot program started last year in collaboration with FAR (Fund for Armenian Relief) called Venture Armenia which helped establish connections between Armenian American young professionals and established professionals in Armenia. Guest Speaker, Ghazaros Kherjilian, a professor at Binghamton University, spoke about the importance of the development of renewable energy in Armenia particularly in Solar Energy. He is part of a team organizing a proposal called “Solar Armenia” which is to create a large 58MW Solar Powered Plant in Armenia. He invited students and professionals in all fields to participate and contribute to this important cause.

AESA NY-NJ Section President announced the new graduate studies scholarship program offered by the Armenian Engineers and Scientists of America. The scholarship is offered every year in the amount of $3000 to any Armenian gradate student involved in a thesis / dissertation program in an accredited university. The scholarship is sponsored this year by Dr. Shant and Mrs. Ani Kenderian. For more information on this scholarship, go to http://www.aesa.org/scholarship/.

Co-Chairman Dr. Garbis Baydar of the Armenian Health Professionals Organization gave motivational words to the students regarding choosing their career path, “First listen to your heart then listen to your brain, if you make the right choice it will be a joyful career for you”.

An after party was held at the local Empire Hotel Lounge attended by many of the young professionals and mentors.

AESA donated ARMTAB computers to the Ministry of Nature Protection of Armenia

The Ministry of Nature Protection of Armenia is continuing to work on the logistics of improving use of higher technology in their operations. Along with the introduction of information technology projects in the natural protected areas, Minister Artsvik Minasyan has started an initiative to improve the working conditions of staff of the Ministry of Nature Protection by upgrading the computer systems. On March 16, Armenian Engineers and Scientists America (AESA) donated 10 ARMTAB tablet computers that were produced in Armenia. These tablets will be used by various departments of the Ministry during meetings and workshops to improve the staff performance. Previously AESA had donated desktop computers and parts for different instruments as well as conducting building repairs. AESA expressed its willingness to continue to initiate similar donations to support the improvement of the working conditions and reform program initiated by the minister who is from ARF.

Science Olympiad 2017

Armenian students from 6th to 12th grade to participated in the 16th Annual Science Olympiad 2017 at CSUN Northridge Center.  Teachers, parents and mentors were helping students with creating their projects.

The Armenian Scientists and Engineers of America (AESA) Science Olympiad committee (SOC) congratulates all the students, parents, teachers, judges, sponsors, donors, volunteers and committee members who made the AESA Science Olympiad 2017 competition an exciting celebration of bright minds and a successful, memorable event.
